Ammonia, a natural refrigerant
Developed societies rely on industrially produced cooling. Whether in the home, in the production and storage of foodstuffs such as frozen foods, yoghurt and coffee, in industrial production processes in the automotive or chemical and pharmaceutical industries, or in air-conditioning systems – refrigeration is a key component in all these areas.
It is industrially produced refrigeration that makes modern life possible in the first place. Natural refrigerants such as ammonia, carbon dioxide and hydrocarbons play a key role in this.
